• Being the infant of a hepatitis C-infected mother
• Being infected with HIV

There is no need to prepare for the hepatitis C tests. However, patients should inform their doctor about any medications they are taking for hepatitis or other medical disorders before the test.

Adverse effects are minor. There may be some bruising and throbbing around the puncture site, as well as discomfort when the needle is put and removed.
