What to do first as  covid precautions at home?

The first covid precautions at home is  that one needs is to ensure that the infected person is not seriously infected and can be taken care of at the home itself. Then, the infected should be quarantined or if you live alone, you should self-quarantine yourself. On a personal level, self-quarantine implies maintaining a sufficient distance for a stipulated time between yourself and another person so that others do not get infected too. Here, the infected person should be allotted a separate room and the person taking his/her care should take all due precautions. One has to quarantine for at least 14 days and get tested and end his/her quarantine only when the test reports turn negative.

What to eat?

Nutrition and hydration are essential. People who consume a well-balanced diet have stronger immune systems and are less likely to contract severe diseases. If you or your family member(s) has been infected with coronavirus, you should include healthy foods like fruits, vegetables, nuts, lentils, etc. in the meal along with the medicines prescribed by the doctor if any. Drink sufficient amount of water. Avoid packaged food and junk food or food from outside during the process of recovery. Drink home-made fruit juices. One can also have tea or coffee but make sure you don’t consume them a lot.

Personal Hygiene

Make sure, you take bath daily and wash/sanitize your hands at a regular interval. Avoid touching surfaces, door latches, knobs, etc. If you touch them, ask your family members to sanitize them properly. Avoid touching your nose, mouth and eyes. Use handkerchief instead of a tissue paper to blow your nose and wash your hands afterwards. Change clothes daily and properly wash the utensils you eat your food in. Don’t create a mess in the area/room you are quarantined in. Efforts should be made to recycle or dispose of food waste and packaging in a safe and hygienic way. Also, avoid touching your pet while you are infected.

Necessary covid precautions at home .

Keep wearing mask at all-time even if you are quarantined. A sick person might use the mask to keep the infection from spreading to others. It keeps respiratory droplets confined and out of the hands of others. Use separate bathroom, utensils and other items. Avoid having visitors at your place. The family members should disinfect the home on a daily basis. Use gloves to handle any utensils used by the ill patient. They may be washed in the dishwasher or with soap and hot water. Continuously monitor your oxygen levels and contact a doctor if your oxygen level is constantly low. Also, if your health deteriorates, immediately shift to hospital.

Instructions for care takers

Before entering the room, put on a mask and ask the ill patient to do the same. When you touch or come into contact with the ill person’s blood, faeces, or bodily fluids like saliva, mucus, vomit, or urine, use gloves. Put your gloves in a lined garbage can and wash your hands as soon as possible. While caring for the sick individual, caregivers should stay at home and check their health for covid-19 signs. Fever, cough, and shortness of breath are common symptoms, but others may appear as well. Trouble breathing is a more significant symptom that you should seek medical help. After the care is over, caregivers should stay at home. Caregivers can leave their house 14 days after their last close contact with the sick person depending on how long it takes for sickness to develop or 14 days after the sick person satisfies the requirements to be released from home isolation.

Conclusion

The times are testing but, this time shall pass too.
