What self-quarantine means?

It is to be known that one can quarantine himself/herself at the individual level too. On a personal level, it implies maintaining a sufficient distance for a stipulated time between yourself and another person so that you do not become sick and others do not get infected too. Individuals are generally asked to self-quarantine following known contact with an infected person or after returning from a location where instances of the illness are frequently reported by health officials to limit transmission of a contagious disease during the pandemic. Self-quarantine mainly takes place within a home.

When should you quarantine?

A person has to undergo the quarantine period whenever he/she has had frequent interaction with someone who tested positive for covid-19. This is done to monitor the symptoms of the person quarantined. If he/she does not show any signs of covid-19 infection, he/she are allowed to get out of quarantine.

One also needs to quarantine when he/she has been tested positive for the coronavirus infection and isolate themselves from the rest of the members at the earliest.

One also needs to inform about this to other persons whom he/she have been in contact with in the recent time so that they could also quarantine themselves. Once the person recovers and has no symptoms of the covid-19 virus, he/she is allowed to get out of the quarantine.

How long should you quarantine?

If you are in close touch with someone who has covid-19, a 14-day quarantine is suggested. A 14-day quarantine is the most effective method for avoiding the spread of covid-19, and it may be essential in certain circumstances or settings. If you haven’t acquired any symptoms after 10 days, your quarantine may be lifted. Until the 14th day following your last close encounter, keep an eye out for symptoms of covid-19. In some conditions or contexts, a quarantine period of this length may not be appropriate. Quarantine regulations should be checked with your local health agency, business, or institution. If you haven’t acquired any symptoms and have a negative covid test result on day 6 or 7, your quarantine may be lifted after 7 days (within 48 hours of the end of quarantine). Until the 14th day following your last close encounter, keep an eye out for COVID-19 signs. In some conditions or contexts, a quarantine period of this length may not be appropriate. Quarantine regulations should be checked with your local health agency, business, or institution.

Guidelines to follow for 14 day quarantine?

The person home quarantined for 14 days should stay in a well-ventilated single room with an attached/separate toilet if possible. If you have to share a room with another family member, keep a gap of at least 1 metre between you and them. He/she must keep a safe distance from the elderly, pregnant women, children, and individuals with co-morbidities in the home and restrict his/her movements in the household. He/she should strictly refrain from leaving the house and should not attend any social gatherings like birthday parties, weddings, etc. Hands should be washed as often as possible with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand sanitizer. Dishes, drinking glasses, cups, dining utensils, towels, beds, and other domestic things should not be shared with other people at home. If symptoms such as cough, fever, or trouble breathing occur, he/she should contact the local health centre right once. Only a designated family member should be authorized for taking care of such a person.

How to Self-Quarantine?

Symptoms of covid-19 usually emerge 2 days to 2 weeks following an exposure or infection. However, many patients infected with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus show no symptoms. As a result, self-quarantine should persist for 14 days to provide time to ensure that you don’t have it or can’t transfer it to others without testing. Unless you have an emergency, such as a medical check-up, you should stay at home throughout your quarantine. Separate yourself from the rest of the family members and pets. If feasible, use a separate bedroom and bathroom. Utensils, plates, cups/glasses, blankets, towels, and other personal goods should not be shared. If you’re having trouble separating yourself, put on a mask. Phones, remote controls, door knobs, bathroom handles, toilets, and other high-touch surfaces in your room or quarantine area should be cleaned and disinfected on a regular basis. After coughing, sneezing, using the restroom, and before and after eating, wash your hands thoroughly with soap.
